Printing

SMB includes support for sharing printers. These are also treated as shares and many of the same options that apply to disk shares can also apply to printer shares, e.g. a printer can:

  • Be made active/inactive
  • Be made browseable/non-browseable
  • Be assigned a name and comment

In addition, the administrator can specify the commands used to perform the usual printing functions:

  • Add a job
  • Remove a job
  • List all scheduled jobs

SCO VisionFS automatically detects which printers the UNIX server is aware of and then adds these to the profile. This then gives the administrator access to all available printers via the Profile Editor.

TCP/IP Client

As mentioned earlier the connectivity currently provided is dependent on using TCP/IP. The Microsoft 32-bit VxD stack is provided for users of Windows 3.1/3.11 who do not have a TCP/IP stack already installed.

Minimum Requirements

SCO VisionFS will require 20MB disk space on the UNIX server.

Recommended clients are:

  • Windows 3.11
  • Windows 95
  • Windows NT

with 8MB RAM
